RECTOR SOLICITS SUPPORT OF SSAUTHRIAI AND OTHER UNIONS

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has called on the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions ( SSAUTHRIAI), Federal Polytechnic Oko branch and other unions on campus to continue to support the administration and engage in constructive criticism where necessary rather than resort to actions geared towards causing chaos in the institution.

The Rector made the appeal on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in her office when the trade union paid her a courtesy visit.

Rector reinstated her commitment towards protecting all staff, insisting that Federal Polytechnic Oko under her watch is against victimisation of staff and students.

“This is a union friendly management. We don’t need strike, if any matter that requires management attention comes up, let us know about it so that we can look at it together.

“I am simply asking for synergy and harmonious relationship between unions and the management. No union will be denied of any right due to them. Let us work as a team, for united we stand but divided we fall” she appealed. The Rector also promised to look into the requests made by SSAUTHRIAI.

Earlier, the new chairman of SSAUTHRIAI, Comrade Godson Nzekwe said they were on the visit to introduce the new leadership of the trade union in the institution and to congratulate the Rector on her emergence as the Rector of the institution.

They seized the opportunity to make requests for a union vehicle and space for erection of their secretariat from management.
