FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO TO SET AMNESTY EXAMINATION FOR OVERSTAYED STUDENTS

Students who have overstayed the validity period of their programme due to failure in some courses can now heave a sigh of relief as the Polytechnic Management has resolved to set amnesty examination for  them to enable them graduate. This was made known by the Ag.Rector, Dr. Ubaka Chukwugekwu during the opening ceremony of the students week held at the school auditorium. Dr. Ubaka revealed that the concerned students will be required to pick forms for the amnesty examination from Deans of their respective schools free of charge. However, they will pay an administrative fee of N50,000 only in order to carter for logistics involved in organizing the examination. 

He opined that only students who appeared in person would be allowed to sit for the examination and called for all concerned students to take advantage of this window of opportunity in order to accomplish their academic career. The Ag. Rector further revealed that Management is determined to abolish all unlawful fees that are paid in the departments and stated that a committee has been constituted to collate all the fees that are paid in the departments with the aim of harmonizing them.He ceased the opportunity to announce the abolishment of payment for crest and pin up by students. This is in addition to scrapping of graduands list which hitherto had stalled the processing of certificates of quite a number of graduated students.

He also reiterated that Management was working at ensuring that students were able to access the student loan designed by  the Federal Government and urged students to apply for the loan. Dr. Ubaka further revealed that processes had already begun which would lead to the appointment of a substantive Rector and expressed hope that very soon the Polytechnic would have a substantive Rector. The Ag.Rector intimated the students that he graduated from Federal Polytechnic Oko then Anambra State Polytechnic in 1986 as overall best student  and admonished them to be serious with their studies and aim for excellence just as he acknowledged that the students week was a good initiative as it would make for more socialization and interaction among the students.

Earlier, the student Union Government President, Comrade Kingsley Ogbu appreciated the Ag. Rector and Management for their support and promised that the SUG will co-operate with him in order to ensure seamless flow of academic programme in the Institution. In his remarks the Dean of student affairs, Comrade Chibuzor Asomugha congratulated the SUG for organizing the students week amidst existing challenges.  He assured that his office would always be open to attend to students need and encouraged them to feel free to come to his office for resolution of issues facing them.  Highlights of the ceremony included award presentation to the Ag.Rector , some Management staff, past student leaders and other well meaning Nigerians.
