Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko has flagged off the sports festival of the Federal Polytechnic Oko staff sports club. The Rector was represented at the event which held on Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025 by the Deputy Rector Administration , Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ezekwe stated that the Rector was passionate about the development of the Polytechnic and has been working tirelessly to uplift the image of the institution through infrastructural development of which the staff sports club is one of them.
He reiterated that the staff sports club was established with the aim of promoting the health and fitness of staff and to serve the relaxation needs of staff. According to him
” A healthy staff will be a productive staff and will invariably contribute enormously to the development of the institution”
He declared that he was registering as a member of the sports club and urged all staff to register as members in order to take advantage of facilities at the centre. Dr .Ezekwe equally drew attention to the guest house which is part of the centre, stating that it can serve Polytechnic guests and staff alike and called for it’s patronization
Earlier in his brief remarks, manager of the staff sports club , Mr. Atiku Haruna appreciated and welcomed everyone . He thanked the Rector for making the staff sport club possible. “I can’t thank the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie enough for putting up this sports facility to help us staff” He then urged every staff to register as members in order to benefit from the numerous facilities available in the place.
He later led the Management and other staff present on a tour of facilities at the staff sports club. Some staff who came to the event fully kitted in their sports wear embarked on fitness exercise under the guidance of fitness instructors. Other staff took out time to try their hands on different sport facilities at the centre which include ; spinning wheel, ludo, chess, scrabble, table tennis, thread mill, draft, monopoly, dart, snooker, ayo, etc.
