Public lecture marking the 34 years anniversary of the creation of Orumba North LGA was held on 26th August 2025 at Federal Polytechnic Oko Auditorium.The lecture which was delivered by Prof. B.C. Nwankwo of the department of Public Administration, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, was encapsulated in a book titled ‘’Orumba North Local Government at 34 years of existence: The journey so far’’ Prof. Nwankwo traced the history of Orumba North Local Government from old Anambra State to creation of state in 1991 when the local government was created. He also articulated the culture, tradition, and composition of the local government.
He described Orumba North as a very big elephant which could be analysed in different ways by different people. He further asserted that the local government has achieved so many things amidst numerous challenges. The lecture presenter also stated that Orumba North LGA has produced illustrious sons who have made national impact including the former vice president Dr.Alex Ekwueme, former national electoral commission chairman, Prof Humphrey Nwosu and reasoned that the local government deserves a premium place in political governance. He therefore called on stakeholders to come together and forge a common front by adopting a political ideology he called political soup pot in order to advance the wellbeing of the local government.

His book covered different areas including genesis and origin of the LGA, agriculture, commerce and economy, tourism and tourist sites, composition of towns and villages, markets, culture, tradition and festivals as well as marriage customs. The book also highlighted achievements and challenges facing the local government.
In her response, the Rector,Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr.Chioma Irene Awuzie who was represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba described the book as versatile and highly informative and called for its proper documentation and for international standard book number to be assigned to it. She also recommended that the book be pushed to Wikipedia and called for the creation of website to make the book accessible to people anywhere in the world. She then made suggestions that could enhance the book and urged the local government Mayor to ensure that the book is well reviewed and made a source of reference. This is in addition to its distribution to primary and secondary schools in the area in order to sensitise young people about Orumba North and elicit their interest and commitment to the LGA.
Earlier in his remarks, the Mayor of Orumba North LGA, Barr.Captain Casmir Nwafor (rtd) appreciated everyone who came for the lecture. He reiterated the resolve of his administration to advance the development of the local government and called for the support of all stakeholders, urging them to rally round and strategise for active presence of Orumba North indigenes in government.


Chairman of the occasion, Chief Hon. Sir. Uche Ogbonna appreciated traditional rulers, President Generals and political leaders in Orumba North for their commitment to the local government. He also appreciated the Rector Federal Polytechnic Oko for her developmental strides in the polytechnic. He thanked the Mayor for organising the 34 years anniversary celebration and appreciated past Mayors of North Local Government for their input towards the development of the local government asserting that the local government has come of age.
Hon. Emeka Aforka a former Mayor of Orumba North local government while making his response revealed that his administration conceived and initiated celebration of the local government in 2018 with the maiden celebration of 27 years anniversary. He made known that agreement with the traditional rulers in the area was for the celebration to be done every three years and thanked a former mayor of Orumba North Mrs.Ify Obinabo and the incumbent Mayor, Captain Casmir Nwafor for keeping faith with that agreement by celebrating 30 years and 34 years anniversary of the local government respectively.
Hon. Aforka reiterated that Orumba North was the first local government in Anambra State to celebrate anniversary of its creation thereby setting the pace for other local government councils to follow. He thanked traditional rulers for their continued support for the celebration of the local government and called for active participation in politics by stakeholders in order to position the local government well in the political sphere. He also thanked the Rector Dr.Chioma Awuzie for her partnership with the local government and for making the auditorium available for the public lecture.

Other people who made responses include Igwe Nanka, Igwe Godson Ezeilo who urged for active participation of indigenes of the local government in electioneering processes and called for synergy among all stakeholders for the interest of the local government. Igwe Oko Prof.Laz Ekwueme welcomed everyone to Oko for the event and appreciated the Mayor for organising the event . He then prayed for God’s blessing upon everyone who attended the event.
