The skill acquisition centre at Federal Polytechnic Oko has been commissioned by the Chairman of the 12th Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade OFR on Wednesday 28th May 2025. The centre which is the brain child of the Rector, Dr.Chioma Irene Awuzie is designed to provide training in various skills, including shoe making, welding, block moulding, tailoring etc.
While making his remarks, Dr Gemade stated “I believe that with this, many people will acquire skills here. Even if people don’t come to earn academic certificates,they can come for practical training so they go and fend for themselves in life. This is the best way that people can improve their lives. We congratulate the Rector for the wonderful work she is doing”


He reiterated that with the skill acquisition centre , the printing press, the bread factory and water factory, the IGR of the Polytechnic will become better than many other institutions. He commended the Rector for her vision and resilience.
The Rector, Dr.Awuzie, disclosed that the centre is part of her mission statement and is aimed at empowering staff, students and members of the public with useful skills. She stated that the skill acquisition programme is a certified programme and certificates will be issued at the end of the programme by NBTE. She made known that it is accredited by NBTE, and it is a national skill qualification (NSQ) project of Federal Polytechnic Oko.



Members of the 12th Governing Council, the Management team and other staff members were present at the commissioning exercise.
