The Mayor, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra state; Capt. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd) has said that his local Government will partner Federal Polytechnic, Oko in the area of skills acquisition, security and road infrastructure.
Captain Nwafor who paid a courtesy visit to the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 said his local Government will key into the Skill Acquisition initiative of the Rector to meaningfully engage some youths who have nothing doing in the area, even as he applauded Dr. Chioma Awuzie for extending the gesture of nominating some beneficiaries to Oko Peoples Union.

He emphasized that his administration wants to improve on security in the council area, revealing his plans to open up a roadblock in some flashpoints in Oko and its environs as part of his strategy to curb insecurity in the area.
Captain Nwafor also said he will distribute some gadgets to security formations in the area, adding that the Chief Security officer of Federal Polytechnic Oko will also be handed over some gadgets to enhance security in the Polytechnic.
He equally revealed his plans to construct and fix the road leading from Total filling station, Oko down to the Federal Polytechnic Oko, adding that the road will be barricaded during the time of upgrading but seeks the collaboration of the Polytechnic for the work.
He further congratulated Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie on her recent appointment as the substantive Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, urging staff and students to support and cooperate with her rather than resorting to infighting that will not allow the school to grow academically.


Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie appreciated the Orumba North Mayor and his team for their interest to partner Federal Polytechnic Oko in many areas, explaining that the Institution’s Skills Acquisition will be commissioned on May 28, 2025 as part of activities marking her first 100 days in office.
She noted that for the first phase, the centre will train interested participants free on various skills including block molding, tailoring, fabrication, shoe making amongst others. However, subsequent training will involve registration at a subsidized rate.
The Rector thanked the Mayor for his plans for the Polytechnic especially in the area of road infrastructure and provision of security gadgets for the school.


Rector also disclosed that Federal Polytechnic Oko has outsourced security and the new security firm will sign indemnity with the Polytechnic, saying that the MoU will soon be signed.
She said the management awaits the proposal for partnership on road infrastructure, stressing that her administration is open for more partnership and collaboration.
