FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO RECTOR’S UNITY CUP :Teaching staff Defeats Non Teaching Counterparts

The Non- Teaching staff of the Polytechnic has suffered a 2:0 defeat against their Teaching staff colleagues in the ongoing Rector’s Unity Cup.

The Unity Cup is part of the activities marking the Rector’s first 100 days in office.

The Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie kick started the tournament which ended goaless in the first half.

17 minutes into the second half, the teaching staff striker, Mr. Haruna Atiku Ibrahim broke the deadlock and eight minutes later, another teaching staff sensation, Winning Ovie scored the second goal to send the Non Teaching staff packing.

All attempts by the Non Teaching staff goal keeper, Obinna Atu to stop the teaching staff could not yield any positive results.

Earlier in her remarks, the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie welcomed the principal officers, management, staff and students for coming to witness the kick off match between the Teaching and Non Teaching staff of the Polytechnic.

She explained that the name unity cup was not a mistake but signifies the peace and unity being experienced presently in the Polytechnic, expressing confidence that the competition will bring more unity in the Polytechnic

She said her administration is committed to improving the social wellbeing of both staff and students.

She highlighted some projects being undertaken by her administration which are nearing completion. According to her, “the students’ recreation centre is nearing completion while Staff Sports club is already completed. Staff are enjoined to go to the club for registration. The Polytechnic has many facilities in the club. All these are geared towards making staff and students happy”

“We are assuring the Polytechnic community that the past glory of the institution will be restored under this administration” she said.

The Head Coach of the Polytechnic, Mr. Uche Okafor thanked the Rector and the entire management for staying through the tournament.

He revealed that other matches will be played between group A and Group B.

The Group A Team include: School of Arts, Design and Printing Technology, School of Business Studies, School of Financial studies and School of Science and Technology while Group B is made up of School of Applied science, School of Engineering Technology, School of Environmental Design and Technology and School of Information Technology.

He said that winners in all the competitions will be presented with a trophy on May 28, 2025 the final day of the competition.
