The Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie following her assumption of office; embarked on a fact finding tour at the eight schools in the polytechnic in order to have first- hand information about state of things at the various schools. The visit enabled the Rector to personally interact with key officers in the respective schools and their departments who briefed her about the challenges and problems they were encountering, The schools covered include: School of Financial Studies, School of Business Studies, School of Environmental Design and Technology, School of Information Technology, School of Engineering Technology, School of General Studies, School of Arts Designand Printing Technology, and School of Applied Science.
The myriad of challenges being faced by the various schools were carefully related to the Rector who immediately swung into action by proffering solution to some of these challenges that could be tackled immediately while she made reassuring commitment to tackle the rest of the challenges that needed systematic attention. Some of the far reaching pronouncements made by Dr. Awuzie include erecting a building for School of Financial Studies through TETFund 2025 intervention fund. She also approved the supply of 50 computers from store to the Department of Office Technology and Management (OTM) to strengthen their capacity building.


Following the recurring challenge of insecurity resulting in vandalism of properties by hoodlums,which almost all the schools at the extension site of the polytechnic highlighted on during the tour, Dr. Awuzie stated unequivocally thata comprehensive approach to tackle insecurity will be adopted including setting up a model security outfit, establishing a security post at the extension site to be manned by able bodied men. In addition to that will be mounting of street light. She also promised that a security post will be established at Atani Campus. On the issue of non-availability of office space which most departments reported, the Rector assured that a 40 room office block is currently ongoing and will help in ameliorating the problem of insufficient office space for staff when it is completed.
The department of Fashion Design was given the much needed motivation and support following the pronouncement by the Rector that products by the department will be commercialized to be a source of income generation. In furtherance to this, a startup grant will be given to the department. Similar support and encouragement was also extended to the department of Home and Rural Economics as the Rector stated categorically that products by the department will be commercialized while grant will be given to them for this purpose.The two departments were consequently charged to set up marketing shops for their products.


Department of Printing Technology was not left out as the Rector stated that the department will be supported to establish a printing press which will be producing books for the polytechnic community as well as exam papersthat are used in the polytechnic.Sequel to lack of working materials like stationaries which were reported by different departments, Dr. Awuzie promised that stationaries will be provided at the store.Concerning accreditation, she said “accreditation will be conducted and will be done effectively” She then assured that programmes due for accreditation will be accredited as Management will ensure that necessary facilities are provided. She reassured staff that she will work for their good and urged them to be diligent and punctual to work in addition to carrying out their duties efficiency. The Rector was accompanied on the tour by Principal Officers and some members of the Management Committee.
