The Ag.Rector Dr. Uche Onyegbu has urged the entire staff of the Polytechnic to sit up and take their work seriously, warning that non-productive staff of the Polytechnic will be meted with harsh penalties.
The Ag.Rector during the address disclosed what would be the policy direction of his administration. In his remarks “I want to use this opportunity to call on the lecturers to improve the quality of teaching. You should endeavour to be punctual and teach the students regularly as any lecturer or staff who is found wanting will surely face the law.”
He decried the attitude of staff who don’t come to work and those who report to work very late. While condemning this, he tasked all heads of department to sit up and be proactive as indolence will not be tolerated.
He then called on SERVICOM and the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the institution to rise up to the challenge by ensuring that staff discipline is restored in the Polytechnic. The new Ag.Rector also announced a palliative of free bus services to Awka residents to the cheering staff. He further directed the department of works services to ensure that there is regular power supply within the polytechnic community especially in key units like the medical services as well as Result Computing and Printing Unit.
While calling for support and co-operation of the entire staff for the new administration, the Ag.Rector equally called on the staff to close ranks, forgive and love one another as a way of moving the institution forward. He promised to run an inclusive administration and extended the olive branch to everyone.
He disclosed that the Management has set the ball rolling to present some programmes for accreditation including HND Chemical Engineering, HND Agricultural Technology among others. He added that Management is already working to ensure that the promotion of Chief lecturers and Principal lecturers who were due for the 2023 promotion exercise is released while assuring that 2024 promotion is being attended to.
