The Sports Directorate in conjunction with the Student Union Government, Federal Polytechnic Oko has organized a female football competition to mark Dr.Chioma Irene Awuzie’s one year anniversary as Rector of the Polytechnic.
The competition which commenced on 4th February, 2026 saw the School of Engineering Technology edge out Department of Food Science and Technology by a lone goal.
In a similar vein, Department of Business Administration and Management defeated School of Science and Technology by one goal.


The match between Public Administration and School of Financial Studies stretched into penalty shoot out following a goalless draw at regulation time.The match ended 4 – 3 in favour of Public Administration.
The female footballers were later received by the Rector in the company of Principal Officers of the Polytechnic at the convocation arena on 5th February.
Dr. Awuzie appreciated them for taking part in the competition; stating that football is a wholesome recreational activity that is healthy to the body and mind.
She assured them of the Management’s commitment to the well being of students and charged them to always remain law abiding, peaceful and diligent in their studies.



The Rector who emphasized that Federal Polytechnic Oko is the best, admonished students to be good ambassadors of the Institution and portray the institution in good light to their friends outside. The Rector awarded a scholarship to one of the students and also made a cash donation to support the football competition.
Earlier in his speech, the Coach Mr.Uche Okafor stated that Rector’s one year in office had been marked by great accomplishments; and revealed that the competition was organised to appreciate her for her good works in the Polytechnic. He informed the Rector that the female footballers are new players they are grooming to form the female football team of the Polytechnic for the upcoming NIPOGA sports festival.


He revealed that the remaining fixtures of the tournament are as follows:
School of Arts, Design and Printing Technology versus Library and Information Technology, while Office Technology and Management will take on Mass Communication.
