The award was in recognition of Dr. Chioma Awuzie’s Impressive role, visionary leadership and unwavering commitment towards ameliorating the plight of Polytechnic Students in Nigeria.
The National President of NAPS, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan while presenting the award, commended the Rector for her competence, commitment and selflessness in promoting quality and standard education as well as her advocacy and protection of human rights of the downtrodden in Nigeria.

Comrade Oghayan noted that Rector’s advocacy and advice led to the amicable resolution of the leadership crisis that earlier gripped NAPS.
“After our election in Minner, Niger state in February this year, some persons that were not satisfied with the outcome of the election formed a parallel government. We visited Federal Polytechnic Oko during the matriculation.
“Rector, Dr. Chioma Awuzie was the first Rector to advocate for peace and unity in NAPS which led to the amicable resolution of the crisis, hence our reason for this recognition.

“NAPS is supporting and will continue to support her administration. We are solidly behind you. We were fed with lots of wrong information about the incident that happened at Oko community recently, we are happy to confirm that no student lost their life to the incident.
“We must also appreciate the Rector for the developmental strides in the Polytechnic, starting from the revival of the hitherto moribund poly water factory, printing press and poly bread factory. We are also aware of the skills acquisition centre, medical centre at Ufuma campus, her policy reforms and creation of peaceful environment and conducive environment for teaching and learning”
Responding, Rector, Dr. Chioma Awuzie welcomed and thanked NAPS national officers and some stakeholders from South East zone for their visit to Federal Polytechnic Oko and for the recognition as NAPS Matron.

She used the opportunity to debunk the social media negative reports on the institution, saying that Federal Polytechnic Oko is safe and students are going about their daily activities.
She commended NAPS for their role during the recent incident that happened in Oko community and enjoined the public to always verify any information they are dishing out to the public.
