Staff of our Polytechnic radiated with joy and happiness following the distribution of bags of rice from Federal Ministry of Agriculture to them. This commendable development was facilitated by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie who liaised with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for it to happen. The 50kg bags of rice which are subsidized at N40,000 per bag are part of measures initiated by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mitigate the harsh economic situation in the country.

It would be recalled that during the presentation of her inaugural address to the Polytechnic Community on her assumption of office,the Rector articulated her 12 point agenda for lifting the polytechnic to enviable heights. Among the 12 point agenda is staff welfare. Facilitating this rice distribution is therefore a great welfaristic act by the Rector and a demonstration of her commitment to walk the talk.

The rice distribution was proceeded by staff documentation and capturing exercise by officials of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. While flagging off the rice distribution at the polytechnic, the Rector thanked the President for his efforts to make things better in the country and appreciated him particularly for making rice available to civil servants.

She assured staff that her administration is committed to the welfare of staff and called for the support of all. “This administration is government of the people for the people and by the people. Join hands together with this administration in order to achieve our set goals ”   She emphasized the need for team spirit and the essence of working together in order to meet outlined targets. She made it emphatically clear that her administration will always make sure that what belongs to Federal Polytechnic Oko gets to Federal Polytechnic Oko.

In her remarks, the Director of Special Duties, Dr. Ijeoma Okechukwu who supervised the rice distribution appreciated the Rector for the opportunity given her to serve the polytechnic and pledged to contribute her best for the good of the Polytechnic. While giving the vote of thanks; the Director of Works Services, Engr.Dr. Azubuike Nwankwo who described the Rector as a good choice for the polytechnic lauded her for her good works and described her appointment as beginning of good things for the polytechnic.“The storm is over …and the rain is already falling’’.The exercise which was conducted in an orderly manner saw staff that were earlier captured for the rice collection carrying their bags of rice with joy.
