RECTOR,DR AWUZIE HONOURED AT THE GRAND CELEBRATION OF ORUMBA NORTH AT 34

The grand celebration of Orumba North at 34 was marked with pomp and pageantry on 27th August 2025 at the parade ground of the local government. Many dignitaries were honoured at the event with various titles and awards. Among those honoured was Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie who was conferred with the title of mmiri doro edo of Orumba North in recognition of her outstanding academic excellence and scholarship; human resource and educational development.

Dr.Helen Nnabuenyi, Desk Officer, Tetfund Federal polytechnic Oko represented the Rector at the event. She appreciated the leadership and traditional council of the local government for the recognition, pledging that Federal Polytechnic OKo will continue to partner Orumba North LGA for mutual benefit.

Mayor of the local government Barr. Capt Casmir Nwafor (rtd) was conferred with the title of Ikoro dikeora orumba. Earlier in his welcome address, the Mayor appreciated everyone who came to the event, describing the 34 years of the local government as a milestone which is a testament of their resilience, unity and collective progress as a people. He stated that they had faced numerous challenges but had always persevered and achieved progress.

The Mayor paid tribute to notable sons of the area who had made national impact, among who were Dr.Alex Ekwueme former vice president, Prof. Humphrey Nwosu former chairman of national electoral commission whom he said was instrumental to the creation of the local government and Prof Chukwuemeka Ike a renowned author.

He also appreciated former chairmen, administrators and secretaries of the local government for their contribution to the growth and development of the local government. The Mayor highlighted the achievements of his administration to include distribution of 70,000 high breed plantain suckers with fertilizers and farm seedlings to farmers to boost agricultural produce, construction of numerous roads and several infrastructural projects.

He called for unity among stakeholders in Orumba North in order to foster development in the area.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Damian Ogene thanked the Mayor for his transformational leadership, appreciating the unity existing among all the organs of government in the local government. The event featured unveiling of the statue of Prof. Humphrey Nwosu at the local government secretariat, commissioning of the pavilion named after the first chairman of the local government, Mr.Christopher Ibe Chima Okechukwu, dance by different women cultural groups and masquerade display.
