The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) Federal Polytechnic Oko branch has expressed their support for the administration of Dr.Chioma Irene Awuzie, Rector of the Institution. This was made known by the branch chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Okolie during a courtesy visit by leadership of the Union to the Rector.
Mr. Emmanuel Okolie informed the Rector that the leadership of NASU were on the courtesy visit to congratulate her on her emergence as the substantive Rector of the institution, saying it’s an answered prayer.
“We had written to the Presidency and Governing Council for ensuring that we have an internally generated Rector and we are grateful. We are here to congratulate you because this management is our own management. NASU will be solidly behind you because your emergence is an answered prayer .

The union also praised the Rector for her strides in the transformation of the Polytechnic.
NASU used the opportunity to raise the issues of non allocation of land to their union, non payment of salaries to some of their members, stoppage of salaries of some NASU members , outstanding arrears of salaries and staff attitude to work amongst other issues.
The Rector, Dr.Chioma Irene Awuzie in her remarks, thanked NASU for standing solidly in support of truth.
She noted that NASU play a critical role in the administration of the institution and wondered why previous administrations should deny the trade union a portion of land in the institution while other sister unions have been allocated and were already building their secretariats.
She consequently granted approval for the allocation of a parcel of land for the erection of the Secretariat of the Federal Polytechnic Oko branch of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).

She directed the Director Physical Planning, Dr.Nnamdi Umezinwa to ensure that NASU is allocated a portion of land immediately, adding that the land must be of equal size and proportion with that of other unions.
“I am now a member of all the unions on campus. Everyone must be treated equally. That is the only way we can have a community where peace, love, justice and equity reign supreme”
On the issue of staff poor attitude to work, the Rector promised that this will be addressed.
She also assured that staff whose salary and union dues had issues will be rectified, even as she asked NASU chairman to liaise with the Polytechnic Bursar, Mr Stephen Udu to resolve the cases of NASU members that have unpaid arrears.
