The newly elected SUG Executive of our Polytechnic have been inaugurated. The event which had in attendance the Ag.Rector, Dr.Ubaka Chukwugekwu represented by the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr.Kenneth Ezekwe was chaired by Deputy Rector Academic, Dr.Uche Onyegbu. The chairman of the occasion in his opening remarks appreciated the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA) Comrade Chibuzor Asomugha for his wisdom and sense of maturity in handling affairs of the students which has ensured peace and stability. He admonished the elected SUG officials that election is a call to serve, charging them to imbibe honesty and accountability.
He further urged them to work together with the DSA in order to better the lots of students and above all maintain peace in the Polytechnic. Dr. Onyegbu equally urged the elected officials to serve with the fear of God and eschew greed and selfish ambition while reminding them that if they serve well, they will earn a good name and leave a good legacy which could fetch them recognition and promotion in future. He went ahead and charged them to partner with the Polytechnic Management in order to move Federal Polytechnic Oko forward.
Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe the Ag.Rector’s representative in his remarks advised the newly elected president to carry his executive along and also liaise with other arms of the student body in order to maintain balance. He equally charged him to see dialogue with the Management as a solution to any challenge that may arise. He promised the support of Management to the newly elected SUG government to ensure that they succeed. Consequently, the elected officials were administered the oath of office by Barrister Dr. Fidelis Oduah.
The DSA while making his remarks thanked the Polytechnic Management and National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) for their support. He encouraged the new President to run an open door administration in order to maintain the trust of students. The DSA promised to organize an orientation for the elected officials of the three arms of the Student Union Government in order to assist them in setting targets and goals and to fashion a modus operandi for effective operation of the government. He tasked the SUG to constructively engage all the critical stakeholders in the Polytechnic urging them not to compare their administration with past administrations but instead to set their own goals and not allow any body to push them.
The SUG President while making his remarks promised to work in synergy with the Management in order to achieve the aims they set out to achieve. He promised not to fight the Management but would rather liaise with them to sort out grey areas whenever the need arises. He reassured the students that the promises he made to them during the presentation of his manifesto will be upheld and promised not to disappoint them. Monday Chimaobi Julius was sworn in as speaker of the House of Representatives.
In the same vein Rt.Hon Justice Egesimba Cyriacus was sworn in as Chief Justice while Rt.Hon Justice John Kingsley Ikechukwu was sworn in as the Chief Judge.
