AG. RECTOR FLAGS OFF OPERATION GO GREEN PROJECT

The Acting Rector, Dr Uche Onyegbu has flagged-off  the Operation Go Green Project, a tree planting project,  at the extension site of the Institution.

The Ag. Rector appealed to Anambra State Government to assist the  Institution in checkmating gully erosion in the Polytechnic as well as the establishment of School of Agriculture at Ufuma campus.

He noted that tree planting helps to conserve the soil and checkmate erosion, stating that the exercise will help the institution curtail erosion in the Polytechnic.

“We appeal to the state government to collaborate with us in our efforts to control the various gully erosion sites in the institution.”

“We also call for more collaboration in the area of establishment of School of Agriculture at the Ufuma campus,” he said.

He observed that trees accord aesthetic value to the environment, adding that trees are instrumental in keeping the ecosystem’s oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in check through photosynthesis.

He described the event as a noble exercise and in fulfillment of already mapped out policy of the institution on environmental protection, conservation and aesthetics.

According to him, the institution understands the importance of protecting the environment, hence considered it worthy to embark on the exercise also targeted at preventing gully erosion already threatening structures in the institution.
